Klan Kosova TV channel announced results obtained by a research company, commissioned by the television to conduct exit polls at polling stations in main municipalities of Kosovo. The country held on Sunday mayoral runoffs in 19 out of 38 municipalities.
According to Klan Kosova's exit polls, Shpend Ahmeti of Vetevendosje most likely will serve a second term as mayor of the capital, Prishtina. The Klan exit polls have Ahmeti at 52.2 per cent of the vote, versus Arban Abrashi of LDK with 47.8 per cent of the vote. The TV channel publishing exit polls minutes after polling centres were officially closed at 19:00, announced that Shaqir Totaj of the ruling PDK looks likely to be the next mayor of Prizren. Klan’s polls have Totaj at 53 per cent of the vote, beating Mytaher Haskuka of Vetevendosje with 47 per cent. Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj’s ruling party, the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), won in Gjakova and Suhareka. The exit polls show Ardian Gjini of AAK will be the next mayor of Gjakova winning 58 per cent of the vote, versus Mimoza Kusari Lila of Alternativa who won 42 per cent. Also Klan Kosova says its exit poll for the mayoral race for Rahovec - between Smajl Latifi of AAK and Idriz Vehapi of PDK - is too close to call. According to the Central Election Commission (CEC), the overall voter turnout for Kosovo's municipal runoffs was about 38 per cent when polls closed at 7:00 pm. Local and international observers reported that elections were calm with only minor irregularities reported related to organisation of elections.
