LDK and PDK requests recount of votes in Pristina, Prizren GazetaExpress

The Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) is asking recount of votes in capital Pristina, where their candidate for mayor, Arban Abrashi, has around 300 votes less than his main rival, Vetevendosje incumbent Shpend Ahmeti, who is about to begin his second term. The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) is complaining about irregularities during the mayoral runoff on Sunday after their candidate Shaqir Totaj was defeated by Vetevendosje candidate Mytaher Haskuka in a tight race leading with less than 300 votes.

The LDK member of the steering committee, Ismet Beqiri, told the media on Tuesday  said that they have complained to the Election Complaints and Appeals Panel (ECAP), demanding a recount of all polling stations in the capital “after identification of many irregularities.”

“The LDK considers that parties and candidates should not be afraid of the vote recounting process,” Beqiri said.

The LDK also called on relevant institutions to investigate the organisation of transport for potential voters during the election day by some NGOs, after Klan Kosova aired a story reporting that Vetevendosje activists had organised transport to respective polling centres for their potential voters.

“Such an organisation is in violation with the law,” Beqiri said.

According to the CEC preliminary results, Ahmeti of Vetevendosje is leading with around 300 votes more than the LDK candidate Abrashi. The CEC has yet to count about 2,000 conditional, mail-in or special-need ballots. These votes can overturn final results in Pristina.

Also the PDK in Prizren reacted to the results on Tuesday by asking  for a recount of all ballot boxes in the municipality stating that there were violations of the Law on Elections and mismatch of results in this municipality.

During a press conference, the PDK branch in Prizren announced that they have identified irregularities in some polling stations during the polling day on Sunday.
